This post has significant meaning to us for many reasons. Partly because Crockett & Jones is the pinnacle of English made
footwear, partly due to the enjoyment our clients have experienced wearing such superb footwear for decades, but mostly
because we have been family friends for over 40 years.
On a recent trip to the Crockett & Jones factory in Northampton England, we snapped a few pictures of the timed
honoured, labour intensive, art of shoemaking at its finest. We thank the Jones family and their staff for being such
gracious hosts, and look forward to seeing them again soon!

Precision Stitching of the Uppers
It's remarkable how labour
intensive great shoes are, but it
makes a significant difference in
terms of overall quality. Highly
skilled artisans are required to
carry out the many 'hands on'
operations.
Waiting to be Lasted
Hand 'skin stitching' an upper.
Very high skill!
Cork is used for the footbed. It
absorbs the shock of each step
taken by the wearer and forms to
the underside of the foot over
time, offering exceptional comfort.
The Last Bin
Robin gave us an indepth tour of the factory.
What a fantastic experience!
As exceptional shoes are
harder to come by these days,
the machinery to make them is
non existent! Machines from
the early 1900's are still used.
The Finished Product
Over 200 hand operations and
between 8 to 10 weeks later,
the finest English made shoes
are ready for packaging,
shipping, selling and enjoying!
Knock Knock...
Crockett & Jones production capability is about 2800 shoes per week. This is a drop in the worldwide footwear market
bucket! Compare that to inexpensive, low quality shoe factories, that can produce tens of thousands of pairs per day.
High volume, low quality factories can produce a pair of shoes, start to finish, in 20 minutes, whereas Crocketts, using
traditional highly skilled hand operations, take 8 to 10 weeks per pair. Traditional shoemaking methods create footwear
of superior construction, fit, feel and look for many years to come. Visit Andy Trott Kerrisdale Menswear in Vancouver
to view first-hand the stunning quality of Crockett & Jones footwear.
Andy Trott Kerrisdale Menswear "101"
Our merchandising philosophy is quite simple...provide our clients a selection of tastefully designed, exceptional quality
goods, made by manufacturers with a longstanding history and the utmost in integrity.
Filling a store with brand name "stuff" is easy. At Andy Trott Kerrisdale Menswear, we build our inventory by
establishing relationships with the people who manufacture our goods, making thoughtful decisions based on customer
needs, and by constantly pursuing new ideas. A customer-centred vision can only be accomplished at the small,
independent retail level. When we buy our merchandise, we actually envision the individual clients we are buying for,
their needs, their tastes and their demand for quality. Compare this to the other extreme, the big box retailer, whose
major concern is volume of sales, not the long term satisfaction of the customer. Nothing is more rewarding for us than
seeing our clients enthusiasm when "experiencing" the merchandise we carry, and the satisfaction it provides
them...this is truly the essence of traditional retailing.
Our merchandise can be divided into 3 catagories:
1. Staples or classics:
A Samuelsohn navy blue blazer, gray flannel pants from Coppley, a white button down shirt or a Dalmine merino wool
v-neck sweater; just a few examples. Tried, tested and true. Any self respecting closet would feel naked without any
of these necessities. We are careful to have a selection of classics at all times.

3. One of a kind, custom made:
We offer our clients the option to create that special item they have always wanted! We can offer many options to
satisfy your needs, and creativity. Whether it's a custom suit, a made to order blazer, or a one of a kind pair of
shoes...we can help set you apart from the crowd!
2. Unique, limited edition, exclusive:
Merchandise made specifically for our store, to our specifications. This is truly where you can set yourself apart from
the crowd. We actively seek out manufacturers who allow us to have goods made just for our store, as we detail
them. This enables us to enhance the quality by upgrading materials, adding unique details to a garment, or a
combination of both. The key is to add value wherever possible, and never sacrifice quality. This gives our clients a
selection of exceptional quality, tastesfully designed merchandise not found in other menswear stores.
